Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

2-ton Chassis. 2-ton L,orry.

STAND No. 120.,

MBE TRAFFIC chassis has proved quite . a popular model in this country, for it appears to combine cheapness with reliability, and the sturdiness of its construction can be judged by examining with a critical eye the bare chassis shown on the stand of North 'Western Motors, Ltd.

Actually, there are two machines staged, the second being a platform truck with a high tailboard. The cab in this affords the driver-ample protection against the weather, as it has a high side panel at the off side and a high door at the near side. There is also a double windscreen with the top half adjustable. The cushion extends the whole width, and there is an upholstered back rail.

The chassis is constructed to carry 2 tons, and it is priced at £450 for the complete vehicle. The power unit is a Continental fourD28 cylindered monobloc with all the valves on the off side. It is three-point suspended, and mounted as a unit with the clutch and gearbox. A feature of the carburation system is a large flexible pipe, which extends over the cylinders to a muff round the exhaust pipe.

The gearbox provides three forward speeds and a reverse, and the drive is carried through a divided propeller shaft provided with a three-ply Hardy joint At the front, and. Spicer-type joints for the rear portion.

The axle is a Russel of the dual type with a separate load-carrying member, on which the casing for the bevel drive and differential is carried. The driving shafts, enclosed in tubes, lead to the internal gears in the rear wheels. Both brakes act on the rear wheels by internal-expanding shoes and external-contracting bands respectively.
