A New Light Load Chassis. Lorry and Tip Wagon on 30-40 cwt. Chassis. STAND No. 98 TIIIS well-known engineering concern are exhibiting three examples of the 30-40-cwt. model, and the bare chassis of the new 20-25-cwt. model. It was intended to show the 50-60-cwt. chassis, but we are informed that the vehicle set eside for this purpose was bought by a customer just before the Show, who could not wait for delivery, consequently the exhibit is limited to the four vehicles mentioned above.
The new 20-25-ewt. chassis is designed on orthodox lines, the neat four-cylinder engine being unit-constructed with the four-speed gearbox; both the gear. change lever and the hand-brake haver are centrally situated. The engine is provided with side-by-side valves and detachable head, and the mixture passes through the cylinder block from a carburetter mounted on th4 off side to an inlet manifold on the near side, which
is cast in ane piece with the exhaust manifold. The magneto and water primp are accessibly placed, as is also the oil filler far the crankcase. Diagonally opposed brakes are fitted to the rear. wheel drums, one set being controlled by the pedal and the other being linked up to the hand lever ; in each case the pull is transmitted through a whiffle-tree placed amidships, and adjustable hand nuts are provided at this point. The power is transmitted from the gearbox to the worm-and-wheet final drive by a tubular propeller and two fabric joints.
The bare chassis of the 30-40-cwt. type is also available for inspection, and the design of this vehicle is, of course, well known.
The two complete vehicles shown are both mounted on the 30-40-cwt. chassis. One of these is a tipping wagon, the body of which is actuated by hand through the medium of a screw and bevel gear. Lastly, a lorry. for the convey ance of farm produce as exhibited.
