A Light Van and a Commercial Traveller's Car on 8 h p. Chassis.

STAND No. 82.

THE Rover exhibit consists of five different bodies, each mounted on the well-known 8 h.p chassis. This chassis has met with considerable success • in pleasure-car work, and it will be recollected that a horizontally opposed aircooled engine is placed 'behind the dummy radiator. Great progress has been made in the design of air-cooled engines since their inception, and the Raver is a good example of •careful design and has proved itself Capable of prolonged effort at full power in many road tests. The remainder of the chassis follows orthodox light-car practice, and the whole is both.light and speedy. The magneto is accessibly mounted on the top of the crankease and the dynamo is now driven by belt. Fuel is supplied to the carburetter from a scuttle tank oi ample capacity. The crankcase, which is unit constructed, affords three forward speeds and a reverse, and from this corn

ponent the drive is taken by an enclosed propeller shaft to the underslung wormgear in the back axle. The engine and gearbox are tilted at an angle with the horizontal, so that a straight-line drive is obtained from the crankshaft to the wormshaft. • Suspension consists of quarter-elliptic springs at the front and rear, and a detail of interest is the unorthOdox steering gear.

The commercial traveller's car shown is finished strikingly in black and red, and really constitutes a two-seater plea. sure-car body with the addition of the boot for the carriage of samples at the back. This has a capacity of 12 cubic feet and is equipped with double doors. A load of 4 to 5 cwt. can be carried in addition to the driver. The remaining exhibits are all of the light-van class, with double doors at the back and a single seat for the driver. The capacity of these is also 4 to 5 cwt. in addition to the driver. One of the vans is finished in lead colbur, whilst the others are finished in red, blue an& green. All the models exhibited are provided with five detachable disc wheels and pneumatic tyres.
