rp HERE are three exhibits on this ..I. stand, comprising a Reo chassis, a box van for loads of 25 cwt., and a 14seater coach. The chassis enables one to follow out the very interesting mechanical details. The four-cylinder engine is equipped with side-by-side exhaust. valves, but the inlet valves are overhead on the opposite side of the cylinder block and are actuated by push rods and rockers. The carburetter is heated by the circulating water and draws warm air from an exhaust muff. A good feature is the variable choke, which can be controlled from the steering column, this being conducive to easy steering.
The readily adjustable steering gear is a point worthy of attention. Another detail worthy of notice is the adequate protection provided for the ignition *D24 wiring in the neighbourhood of the exhaust manifold. The transmission consists of a three-speed gearbox and bevel final drive. The gearbox, engine, clutch and radiator are all mounted on a special sub-frame. The torque reaction
of the back axle is resisted by a pressedsteel, triangulated member, which is supported at its forward end by a short leaf-spring and a shackle. The starting motor is mounted besidesthe gearbox and drives the clutch shaft through a. roller chain. An ingenious lock is fitted to pre. vent the motor from being tampered with, and it is impossible to drive the chassis by means of the motor, because the electrical connections cannot be made unless the gear lever is in neutral. The box van is very attractively finished in two shades of blue, separated by a cream band ; small doors are provided between the body and the driver's seat and two large doors give access from the back. The 14-seater coach is finished red, with red leather upholstery, and is equipped with an all-weather hood and side curtains.
