New 30-cwt. Chassis. New 2-5.tonner. Large Passenger Chassis. 7-ton Lorry.
STAND No. 100.
FGUR models are shown by this wellknown concern, these being the 7-ten chassis with cab and platform body, the new 30-cwt. chassis, the new 2-3-tonner and a large passenger chassis suitable either for single or double-deck bus bodies. The 7-tanner, which was one of the first petrol lorries of this capacity to be made, is -fitted with a forward-dash mounted just behind the radiator. The driver's cab is well protected by glass panels and windscreens and contains two seats, one being placed at each side of the casing surrounding the engine. The engine and gearbox are mounted on a sub-frame, and from the last-named component the drive is taken by a propeller shaft to an overhead worm on the back axle; the final drive is by redaction gearing situated in the rear wheels. An exceptionally long and wide platform provides for the transmission of very large loads. A feature of interest is the large cylindrical petrol tank slung under the platform on the off side, and this is provided with a filling orifice of very sensible dimensions. The suspension consists of
semi-elliptic leaf springs both at the front and the rear.
The new 2-3-tonner is fitted with a four-cylinder engine of the overhead camshaft type, the design of which is extremely neat and clean. Water circulation is assisted by a pump, and --a
two-bladed cast aluminium fan is driven by belt at the forward end of the engine. A feature of interest is found in the large doors provided at each side of the crankcase. A short shaft transmits the drive from the clutch to the gearbox,
at the back of which a large transmission brake is mounted. From this point power is transmitted by an open propeller shaft to an overhead worm on the back axle. This axle is of the pot type and is of neat and accessible design.
The special Maudslay passenger chassis is equipped with a 32 h.p. engine of the overhead camshaft type ; the steering columns and controls are placed just behind the radiator, and mounted on the steering column is a vacuum tank drawing fuel from a cylindrical petrol container attached at the side of the frame. The transmission comprises va leather-lined cone clutch, centrally mounted: four-speed gearbox and overhead worm drive. A point of interest is the split aluminium wheel secured to the clutch shaft, which drives a dynamo secured to a cross-member; both a rearwheel and a transmission brake are provided. The 30-cwt. chassis is also sure to attract attention, and in the main is designed on similar lines to the 2-3-ton model. The chassis is shown fitted with 36-in. by 6-in, pneumatic tyres at the front and 38-in. by 7-in. at the rear.
