Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

30-cwt. Chassis. Horsebox. 18-seater Bus, Coach. Tractor-lorry-tipper.

STAND No. 108.

VERY unusual design is displayed in most of the Lath l exhibits. Perhape the most striking of these is the horsebox, a large portion of the off side-of which can be folded down to form a, lamp, whilst inner doom hinge outwards and prevent any 'risk of the horse stepping over the side. The vehicle is equipped to carry two horses and is provided with the necessary food troughs. The whole vehicle is well protected by thick cocoanut matting. The chassis is a 2-3-ton type VL 3, the body being built by Vincent of Reading. The important feature of the chassis is a low load-line permitted by the front-wheel drive arrangement. An unusually email-looking bus of the one-man type to acconunodate 18 persons is the more interesting of the two passenger vehicles.

In its lines this vehicle more closely resembles a private car than a commer

cial type; this is carried to the extent of having a V-windscreen. The seats are arranged in pairs facingforwards, ex-. cept by the wheel arches, where one seat. only is provided, a small tray being fitted over the wheel arch. At the rear, seats surround the, three sides: There is a door between the driver's compartment and 'the interior of the body, and the folding door at the near-side front is controlled from the driver's seat. This machine has rear-wheel drive. • Amongst the goods-carrying vehicles there is a tractor trailer with automatic coupling and Wood hydraulic tipping gear, This has been previously described in connection with the Paris Show. The drive is to all four wheels by short carden shafts and spur gears in the wheels. The other complete vehicle is a motor coach. The final exhibit is one of the 30-cwt. BB-type chassis, which is

notable far its low load line. It has a four-cylinder engine, single-plate clutch and four-speed gearbox, all built as a unit. The foot. brake operates' on a transmission drum, whilst the hand, brake takes action on drums bolted to the rear wheels. Springing all round is by semi-elliptics, those at the rear being underslung to lower the frame level.

The 2-3-tonner which is used for the horse-box has front-wheel drive and an engine of 105 mm. bore and 140 mm. stroke, driving through a cone clutch to a gearbox affording four speeds forward and a reverse. The brake arrangement is the same as that on the 30-cwt, chassis. Tyres arelmeumatie.

The .tractor trailer to which we have already referred has thee-same power unit • as the 2-3-former and drives threugh a cone dutch to a 5-speed gearbox ; both tractor and trailer have solid tyres.
