Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

10-ton Tractor-lorry. 3i-ton End Tipper. 2-ton Box Van.

STAND No. 14.•

MHE centre of interest on the G.V.

stand will undoubtedly be the new tractor-lorry of 10 tons capacity. The tractor portion is designed on much the same lines as the ordinary G.V. electric vehicles, the rear wheels being driven by chains from a cross-shaft coupled to the electric motor. A particularly in . tere, stang feature is the means provided for supporting the trailer and permitting the tractor portion to draw away from it. In this way two or more trailers can be used with the one tractor, so that loading can be carried on continuously whilst journeys are being made. The support consists of a small wheel detachably mounted on a triangulated structure, which is attached to the underside of the trailer near the front. This six-wheeled vahicle is designed on thoroughly sound lines, and the Westinghouse system of pneumatic brake operation is employed. When the connection between the trailer and tractor is broken, the trailer brakes are automatically applied so that the wheels are locked whilst loading is in progress. There are two other exhibits in addition to the six-wheeler, these being a 3i-ton end-tipping wagon for refuse collection and a 2-ton box van. The body of the tipping wagon is constructed of galvanized steel throughout and has a capacity of 9 cubic yards ; a single telescopic screw operates the body, which can be tipped to an angle of 45 degrees in 90 seconds. The screw is operated by a small electric motor supplied with current from the batteries of the vehicle. This motor is placed just inside the driver's cab and actuates the screw through a short roller chain and bevel gears.

A good feature is the duplication of the tipping motor controls so that the body can be tipped from the inside or outside of the driver's cab. The 2-ton box -van shown is one sold to Carter, Pateeson and Co.

Three small industrial trucks are also shown, and one of these, known as the Hy-lift,is particularly interesting, as the loading platform can be raised to a height of 6 ft. The capacity is 2 tons, two of the wheels are driven, and all four are steered. Lastly, there is an industrial truck capable of carrying loads up to 10 tons, which can he operated either on road or upon rails.
