TWO examples of the Ootfredson vehicles are shown, one being a bare 30-cwt.. chassis and the other e a 2-ton chassis fitted with a• 20-seater coach body. The main featereslin the design are the same in eaele orthese -vehicles, although, of course, the parts of the

2-tanner are of large:glirnensions. A four-cylinder engine is used in each case, with side-by-side valves and a detachable head. The smaller chassis is equipped with a single-plate clutch, whilst one of the multi-disc variety is

used on the larger. In each case the gearbox isunit-constructed and a Cen tral gear lever is provided. Atwater. Kentstarting, lighting and ignition system is fitted in each case and a 1)18

Kellogg tyre pump is standardized on

the 30-cwt. chassis. This is also-included with the 2-tonner if pneumatic tyres are desired. The drive is transmitted from the gearbox by a short shaft terminating in a bearing mounted on a central cross-member, and from this point " a universally jointed propeller shaft carries the power to the rear axle. This is of the overhead-worm Timken type, and a feature of interest is found in the diagonally opposed duplex braking system. Four shoes are mounted in each of the rear-wheel drums, two pairs being controlled by pedal and two by hand lever.

This system of braking is gaining in popularity, being now adopted by several British manufacturers. Each of the four • brake shoes has an arc of contact of about 80 degrees.

The 20-seater coach islitted with five one-piece transverse seats, access to which is obtained through doors placed on the near side. A detachable hood affords protection to the passengers and a rigid windscreen is provided in front of the driver's compartment. The model shown is equipped with 36-in. by 6-in. Goodyear cord pneumatics, but when used as a lorry solid tyres can be obtained. On both models the wheels are of the cast-steel hollow-spoke variety, detachable rims Ileink provided.
