IT SEEMS THAT, once again, a large, faceless business is riding rough-shod over hard-working individuals who have every right to demand a better rate — the drivers for Lafarge in Leicestershire(CM20 May).

Certainly legitimising your actions through affiliation with a union is to be welcomed, but being told by the GMB to go back to work is surely defeating the point.These workers have tried negotiating with their bosses, but have got nowhere. Now is the time to stand up, be counted, and show these people you mean business. Our industry has been stamped on by so-called "businessmen" with no knowledge of haulage for long enough. These people have families and children to feed too. As for bringing in outside hauliers, where has the once-famous solidarity in haulage gone? Keith Hodgkins East Riding
