Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers can finally get a rebate on the cost of diesel—but only in France.

The French government is reducing the tax differential between diesel and unleaded fuel, to bring it in line with the European average. However, both French and other EU hauliers are likely to get a rebate on a proportion of the tax increase.

The Road Haulage Association says there will be a reimbursement of 3.54 centimes/litre, up to a maximum of 40,000 litres, on trucks of 12 tonnes or more.

It is likely that claims will

have to be made at the end of the year; the RHA advises hauliers to keep all receipts for French diesel.

• Trans-Action is launching its own fuel cruise after the Road Haulage Association's trip to buy cheaper diesel in Calais earlier this month attracted only two hauliers.

Trans-Action spokesman Frank Stears says that the trip, on 29 May, "will show operators of up to at least four trucks how they can save 11000''.
