New equipment comes on site
IN This 80-tonne STD tri-axle low-loader for South West Heavy Haulage of Devon results from a joint venture between Andover Trailers and its overseas trading partner, Goldhofer. For the first time, AT has integrated the German-made hydraulic steering gear and fifth-wheel assembly into a new three and four-axled trailer range with detachable rear bridge and extending, sunken well, excavator and wafer deck options—all of which are interchangeable elements.
The show trailer had twin 285/70R 19.5in tyres. 15-tonne BPW axles and air suspension. plus Wabca EBS with owner databank. and it fairly bristles with clever features, including a quick-release multi-coupling at the neck, largediameter steering head, remote hydraulic locking pins under the neck and inverted rams above the unit's lead-up ramps. All Andover rams now have anti-burst valves. With a 35-tonne kingpin rating, the trailer is plated at 81.35 tonnes GCW and weighs 18 tonnes.
• More than 3,000 of these Samsung PX321 concrete pumping stations have been sold worldwide; 15 of them are in the UK, courtesy of Its agent Amber Pumps of Pool, West Yorkshire—this one is for Arnold Plant Hire in, Stockport. The South Korean-built SM510 8x4 chassis has a 340hp version of the old Nissan RH 17-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine (a catalyser ensures that it meets Euro-2) and a ZF six-speed synchro gearbox. The rig reaches to 32m, and can deliver 100m3 an hour, making it a fair investment at £120,000.
Hull-based Priestman has built its first D490.5 aerial platform into a Citroen Relay van, it has a working height of 10.5m and can take 200kg to a film outreach, The package costs £30,000.

• Gort Engineering of Magherafelt, Northern Ireland's only truck-mounted mixer maker, showed us a Hino 330hp 8x4 with 8.0m3 body destined for Readymix in Dublin. The range includes 10m3 versions for Ireland; all drive gears carry a five-year warranty. Dort is part of a family-owned group that includes MDF Engineering, Star ard SDC.
• This tidy little muck-shifting Mitsubishi Canter appeared on the stand of Volvo Truck & Bus (South), en route for Westward Commercial's demonstrator fleet. With its Atlas crane, Kinshofer grab and tipping body from JCW engineering, the self-loader will carry a reasonable 3.2-tonne payload at its 7.5-tonne gross weight.
III King showed the latest 70-tonne version of its fully steered triaxle Hydrosteer low-loader range. The neck section is removable, to enable plant to be loaded over the front end. King Fit, the latest HaIdex ABS, features the optional diagnostic unit for gath
ering odometer and fault code data. The new 0170 runs on 15-tonne air-suspended SAE axles; it has a payload potential of 55 tonnes.
II Blue Line Access of Honiley, Warks is the UK agent for Dino Lift, Scanlift and Brant° industrial cranes (Angloco handles sales into the fire engine market). This one, based on a Scania P114 220hp 4x2 chassis, is one of a batch for Universal, with 43 and 44m outreaches. They bring Universal's Brant° Skylift fleet up to 18.
• Having joined Lex, Foden and Johnston in a consortium bidding for the huge UK MoD tank transporter contract, Broshuis treated SED visitors to a look at a civilian version of its part in the bid: an eight-axled 100-tonne-plus step-framed low-loader. The trailer can extend 10m further than normal, to 27.8m, runs on 245/70R 17.5in tyres and has two front-lifting axles—the other six are steered by hydraulic power. Its neck angle adjusts to gain extra traction when needed.
E Tippers are essential to any works project, hence the appearance on the Caterpillar demo site of a 380hp Cat C10-engined Foden 3380 8x4 tipper. Equipped with a Rouse & Beer insulated body and Edbro tipgear, this eight-legger is the latest addition to Charnwood Truck Service's small demonstrator fleet. Founded in 1861, the Nottingham firm manages to combine the work of a busy Foden main dealership, haulage operator and rentals fleet with running a truckstop near Junction 24 of the Ml.
NI Southern Electricity has ordered four Mercedes 412D 4x4 Sprinters with Versalift 11.5m aerial platforms and HModul racking. They all have 4.6-tonne CVW ratings,120hp five-pot engines and five-speed gearboxes. Mercedes is developing two new all-wheel-drive Sprinters: one with a 10-speed (five-high/five-low) option; the other with permanent 4x4 and no transfer gearbox.
