Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mobil is launching a programme to help hauliers and distributors cope with the environmental waste generated by their vehicles and sites.

The Mobil Environmental Programme is claimed to eliminate the worry of complying with increasingly complex legislation covering the disposal of waste such as oil, filters, batteries and soiled rags. Safeway has already adopted the Mobil programme throughout its UK operation.

As well as fixed-cost removal of waste (which varies accordng to the site), the programme offers environmental audits, clean-up packs for spills and help with major incidents 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Costs will be determined by site surveys, but Mobil is confident that its programme will save operators money.

Martin Cheeseborough of the Environment Agency endorses the plan, referring to the legal and image costs to operators who fall foul of the environmental regulations. "Prevention of pollution isn't just about protecting the environment," he says. "It also makes good business sense."
