Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Tread with interest and no

mean degree of satisfaction the article where a driver was heavily fined for failure to observe regulations on drivers' hours of work and rest (CM 1319 May). The DOT's detection of such gross violation gives much moral support to those of us who endeavour to ensure that the rules are adhered to properly.

I am field transport manager with a company which operates 350 goods vehicles. It is my experience that the majority of drivers amply with the regulations. However, a minority which will intentionally stray from time to time are effectively cautioned by a published article in "their" Commercial Motor spelling out the likely consequences.

Many drivers are not aware that for them to flout the hours regulations places an obligation on the employer to issue a caution for the offence. These violations can also place an 0-licence in jeopardy.

Well done Coventry magistrates and Dominic Green, DoT ET Ephgrave Pabner & Harvey Portslatle, Brighton, West Sussex..
