• Maintenance problems led to Workington-based Gunn Bros (BM) appearing before North Western Traffic Commissioner Martin Albu at a Kendal disciplinary inquiry.
The Commissioner decided to take no action against the company's licence, and renewed it for seven vehicles for the full five years. But he warned the company it must make sure its maintenance was kept in order.
Vehicle Inspectorate district manager Geoff Lynn said three vehicles examined in February

were all given immediate prohibitions endorsed "neglect". Two were for brake defects.
Transport manager Paul Hargreaves said they had always had their vehicles inspected and maintained by professional garages. With hindsight, the inspection periods had been too long. The six vehicles in possession were now being inspected every four weeks. Hargreaves told the commissioner he was confident the maintenance contractor could do the job.
For the company, Fred Randall said that it had a previous good maintenance history.
