• Supermarket giant Asda has confirmed a reorganisation of distribution in the North-East with the opening of a purposebuilt distribution centre in Tyne and Wear.
A number of distribution contractors are believed to be tendering for the contract, which will operate from early next year
from the new 58,000m2 regional
distribution centre at Washington.
But the move threatens NFT Distribution's Barnsley depot, which currently works for Asda and employs up to 50 drivers and warehouse staff.
Nil' will be attempting to win new business for the site and it is thought to be among companies tendering to operate from the Washington centre which is currently under construction.
