• Mintex Don has launched a campaign supported by a "Don't reline this shoe" poster prompted by increasing incidents of commercial vehicle brake linings becoming loose or even detached from the shoes during use. The company blames the industry's complacency and bad working practices by some refiners.
Bent and corroded shoes and those with elongated holes are being relined. The evidence is then covered up with copper rivets, says the company.
It advises the use of brass rivets and has stopped supplying copper rivets.
