COACH drivers in the Western traffic area are to get an immediate increase in pay following the recent award to provincial busmen. New rates, agreed at a meeting of the South Western (Provincial) Joint Industrial Council of passenger vehicle operators, at Bristol last week, will mean an increase of 7s. 6d. a week.

Under this new wage agreement drivers will receive £8 17s. 3d. for five days' work and £10 5s. for six days. The Sunday rate will be increased by 2s. 6d. to £1 17s. 6d. and the overnight subsistence allowance from 19s. to £1 Is.

VARIATION FOR BULK

THE present trend towards bulk handling in Scotland was raised, at Edinburgh last week, when Messrs. James Middlemiss, Marchmont Road, Greenlaw, secured a variation of their A licence to allow a 71-ton vehicle to be acquired, to replace one of 3+ tons.

The new vehicle would be an Albion with provision for five bulk-fertilizer bins instead of the four carried by the existing vehicle, said Mr. Middlemiss, director.
