Two East Midland Haulage Companies Take Over B.R.S. Depots : Scottish Company Buy 123 Vehicles
THE British Road Services depot in Marsh Lane, Boston, has been sold to Boston Stevedores, Ltd.,
who trade as Tower Hill Transport Co. It comprises 20 operative lorries (61 tons) and a number of spare vehicles and trailers as well as premises.
Another haulage company in the East Midlands, G. and C. Johnson (Claxby), Ltd., Lincoln, have been successful with their tender for the B.R.S.
depot at Barton-on-Humber. Both were offered in list S.4.
SCOTLAND
Inter City Transport and Trading Co., Ltd., Cumbernauld, have acquired 123 vehicles, including 13 articulated outfits (607 tons) and seven trailers. Mr. Alex B. Carroll is chairman of the company.
Most of the vehicles have been made over to other operators. Road Services (Forth), Ltd., Denny, have taken 92 vehicles, including the articulated outfits (397} tons) and three trailers; A. Smith (Darvel), Ltd., Edinburgh, one vehicle (41 tons); Garrallan Haulage, Ltd., Edinburgh, three (141, tons); and Mr. Andrew Bell, Glasgow, one (5 tons).
London Scottish Transport, Ltd., Glasgow, have taken over 12 lorries (54 tons) and three trailers from Mr. Frank N. Moncrieff, Alloa. In turn, London Scottish have transferred a lorry (21 tons) to Mr. J. Galloway McGarva, Alloa.
Four articulated outfits (10} tons) have been made over to D. McKinnon (Transport), Ltd., Kilmarnock, by Clark and James, Ltd., Blount Street, London, E.14. Two of these (51 tons) have been reassigned to Messrs. James S. Auld and Sons, Kilmarnock.
Mr. Sam Anderson, Newhouse, has transferred four lorries, one (34 tons) to Mr. James Nimmo, Shotts; one (31 tonal to The Forrest Plant and Hiring Co.. Airdrie; one (31 tons) to Mr. Hugh A. S. Neil, St. Ninians, Stirling; and one (31 tons) to Messrs. George McAllan and Sons, Tarland.
Messrs. T. B. Band Bros., Perth, have transferred four lorries (12 tons) to Messrs. A. A. Band and Sons, Perth.
Assignments have also been made by John Lee (Haulage), Ltd., Little Benton. Newcastle-upon-Tyne, of one vehicle (31 tons) to Mr. John O'Neil, Glasgow, and Mr. Alexander Myles, Cellardyke, one (4 tons) to Messrs. James Kinnear and Son, Thornton.
Special A licences have also been granted by the Scottish Licensing Authority to: Mr. Donald J. Malcolm, Johnstone, for one vehicle (3 tons); Mr. James K. Allan. Newarthill, one (41 tons); Mr. George Smith, Invergowrie, one (3 tons); Mr. Lewis Taylor, Alias, two (6 tons); and Muir's Transport, Ltd., Cupar, an articulated outfit (54 tons).
NORTH-WEST
A further six lorries (36 tons) have been bought by Hacketts Haulage, Ltd., 229 Cross Lane, Salford, 5. Most of them have now been assigned; one (4 tons) has gone to Messrs. J. G. Perkin and Co., 11 Silverlands, Buxton; two (141 tons) to Mr. A. E. Hackett, Harrison Street Garage, Salford, 6; and two (141 tons) to J. W. Fieldsend, Ltd., 229 Cross Lane. Salford. 5. J. W. Fieldsend have, in turn, transferred a lorry (5 tons) to Mr. R. Bolton, 40 Moss Side Lane, Rixton, Warrington.
Mr. A. Cusick, Thornton Street, Collyhurst, Manchester, 9, has acquired another two lorries 110f tons) and transferred one (5 tons) to Messrs. T. Brady and Sons, Barrow-in-Furness, and one (51 tons) to
F. C. Ames, Ltd., Duck Street, Clitheroe. Vehicles taken over by Mr. Cusick in earlier purchases have now been assigned. Messrs. S. and G. Peck, 43 High Street East, Glossop, have acquired one (21 tons) and Messrs. L. Woodward and Sons, Park Mount Farm, Congleton Road, Macclesfield, one (3 tons). Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Oldham, have transferred a lorry (51 tons) to Queensgate Motors (1954), Ltd., Dame! Platt, Longridge, near Preston. Two vehicles have been transferred by Johnson. Wild and Co., Ltd., The Woodlands, Ashton Road, Newton-k-Willows. One (11 tons) has gone to Mr. J. H. Brocklehurst, 42 Hyde Road, Woodley, Stockport, and the other (34 tons) to Messrs. Carters Removals, 55 Malvern Avenue, Wolverham, Ellesmere Port.
The North Western Licensing Authority has also authorized the following assignments: Thomas Guy, Ltd., Black Horse Farm, Burscough, a lorry (31 tons) to Messrs. C. W. Evans, 5 Beaconsfield Road, Widnes; Smiths of Eccles, Ltd., Manchester, one (3} tons) to Messrs. G. and N. Transport, 42 Robert Street, Patricroft; and Mr. L. Gleave, Holly Bank, Audlem, one (31 tons) to Messrs. Goodlee Transport, Ivy Cottage, Cmnage, Holmes Chapel, Crewe.
YORKSHIRE A first purchase involving eight lorries has been made by Martin Cowley, Ltd.. Clay Cross, Derbyshire. Two lorries have been acquired by Mr. J. Emms, 43 Clay Street, Sheffield, 9.
Mr. L. Broadhead, Raventhorpe Road, Thornhill Lees, Dewsbury, has transferred two lorries to W. F. McQuire and Sons. Ltd., Burton Road, Leeds, II.
One-vehicle assignments have been made as follows: Messrs. Marriott Bros., 70-80 Bridport Road, Sheffield, 9, to A. T. Marriott, Ltd., of the same address; Waddington Warehousing Co., 40a Ellesmere Road, Stockton Heath, Cheshire, to Messrs. F. and H. Murgatroyd, Lakeside Garage, Yeadon, near Leeds; and J. Monk and Co., Thornton Street. Manchester, to Craven Transport, Ltd.. 12 Moor View, Salterburn, near Colne.
WEST MIDLANDS Seven lorries (191 tons) have been acquired by Mr. L. F. Bowen, 101 Catterill's Lane, Alum Rock, Birmingham, 8. It is his first purchase.
Other hauliers who have made direct purchases of British Road Services' vehicles are: N.M.U. (1953), Ltd., 65 Wigginton Road, York, six tomes (261 tons) based in Birmingham; Denman's (Raven Garage), Ltd., Highgate, Whitchurch, Salop, three (131 tons); and Mr. H. N. Stallard, 2 Church Walk, Penn Fields, Wolverhampton, two (31 tons).
Mr. R. T. Catdo, Laburnum, Oak Street, Kingswinford, who has taken over a lorry (31 tons) from Mr. J. Brindley, The Close, Stamford, Hinckley, has re-assigned it to Oakfield Transport Co., Nyuraba, Penzer Street, Kingswinford.
Mr. F. Edwards, Salter's Lane, Liao: pingtort, Wein, has exchanged a lorry weighing 3 tons unladen for one (34 tons) bought by Mr. B. H. Siviter, Patrick House, Westeroft, Cannock Road, Wolverhampton.
Other assignments authorized by the West Midland Licensing Authority are: a lorry (3 tons) to G. Alcock Hauliers (Burslem), Ltd., Lyndhurst Street, Burstem, by Messrs. Johnson Transport, Phoenix Street, Tunstall; one (8f tons) to Bassett's Roadways, Ltd., Tittensor, Stoke-on-Trent, by Mr. R. G. Bassett, of the same address; one (8 tons) to Mr. S. Cope, Hartshill Garage, Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, by Mr. N. Beech, Hope Street, Hanley; and an articulated outfit (2f tons) to Mr, R. Birk, 30 Collin Street, Uttoxeter, by Messrs. Green's Transport, Audlem Road, Woore.
EAST MIDLANDS Boston Stevedores, Ltd. (Tower Hill Transport Co.), The Docks, Boston, have been successful with their tender for list S.4 unit 1445, comprising premises in Marsh Lane, Boston, and 20 operative lorries (61 tons) and three additional vehicles and two spare trailers. Seven of the vehicles are artictilated and there is an eight-wheeler.
The B.R.S. depot in White Cross Street, Barton-on-Humber, which was also offered for sale in list S.4, has gone to G. and C. Johnson (Claxby), Ltd., North Kelsey, Lincoln. Eleven operative vehicles, four of them articulated (33 tons) and two trailers, and an additional lorry, were included in the unit.
An articulated vehicle and a lowloading trailer (91 tons) have been sold to Henry Winfield (Leighton Buzzard), Ltd., in the Metropolitan Area. by Mr. H. G. E. Brown, Hollybank, Stanbridge Road, Leighton Buzzard.
Mr. F. B. Atkins, Findern, has taken over a lorry (8 tons 8 cwt.) from Mr. J. Ashmore, Roebuck Lane, West Bromwich.
Murphy Bros. Ltd., Melton Road, Syston. have transferred three more lorries. Two (14 tons 10 cwt.) have gone to T.C. Transport, Ltd., in the Metropolitan Traffic Area, and the other (2 tons II cwt.) to Mr. E. Wright, in the Eastern Traffic Area.
Special A licences have also been granted by the East Midland Licensing Authority to Louisa Godfrey, 78 North Gate, Newark, for two lorries (6 tons 3 cwt.), and Mr. J. Marsden, 82 Anston Avenue, Worksop, one (3 tons).
EASTERN COUNTIES Five lorries and a trailer (18 tons) have been bought by Mr. C. Brett, 25 Cavendish Street, Peterborough. Three of the lorries and the trailer (12 tons) have been transferred to Brett's Transport, Ltd., of the same address.
Welch's Transport, Ltd., Witham, have had four lorries (14 tons) made over to them by E. L. Dyke and Son, Ltd., Navigation Road, Chelmsford.
Eighteen lorries and five trailers (661 tons) bought some time ago by Mr. L. E. Bartrum, Diss. have now been transferred to Bartrum Road Services, Ltd., of the same address.
Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough, has assigned two lorries (71 tons) to Mr. J. Brindley, The Close, Sharnford, Hinckley, and four (14i tons) to Murphy Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Syston. One of these (31 tons) was made over to him by Mr. B. T. Weaver, 38 Barnsley Road, South Elmsall, and another (31 tons) by Mr. C. Grace, 4 Chapel Lane,South Elmsall.
Murphy Bros., Ltd., have transferred a lorry (3 tons) to Mr. E. Wright, 2 Top Street, Stretham.
Messrs. Thomas Pearmain and Son, St. Ann's Garage, 67 St. Arm's Road, Southend-on-Sea, have now made over .a lorry (81 tons) to T. Pearmain and Sons, Ltd., of the same address.
The Eastern Licensing Authority has also granted special A licences to: Messrs. Phillips' Transport, 23 The Ridgeway, Flitwick, for three vehicles (111 tons); Mr. W. SOUTH WALES A lorry weighing 31 tons unladen has been sold to Mr. W. H. Dalziel, 51 Clive Road, Canton, Cardiff, by Messrs. Mays Transport, Maes-yr-Haf, Cardiff Road, Hawthorn, Pontypridd, Glam.
SOUTHERN AREA Five more lorries (41 tons) have been purchased by Mr. F. A. Wiltshire, 72 Circuit Street, Reading. Two of these (63 tons) have been transferred to Messrs. Clarke Bros., 41 Dimond Road, Bitterne Park, Southampton, and one (3 tons) to Brown and Star Carriers Co., Ltd., Southampton.
F. F. Phillips and Sons, Ltd., 23 Old Wareham Road, Parkstone, have acquired three lorries (9 tons).
Other hauliers to whom special A Licences. have been granted by the South Eastern Licensing Authority are: Messrs. Mr. Foot has transferred a lorry (3 tons) to Mr. A. R. Meaden, Crichel, Wimbome.
LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES
A farther eight lorries (50 tons 12 cwt.) based in London have been taken over by the Liverpool Warehousing Co.,, Ltd., 39-41 Old Hall Street, Liverpool.
Two new purchasers are Messrs. Doddington and Walker, 5 Cowleaze Road, Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey (two vehicles 18 tons 2 cwt.] and two trailers), and White, Fielder and Co., Ltd., 46 Queen's Road, Wimbledon, London, S.W.19 (two vehicles-2 tons 19 cwt.).
Messrs. H. and H. Transport, 118a Danes Road, London, E.7, have had two lorries (7 tons 1 cwt.) and two trailers made over to them by Mr. C. Everitt, 163 North Street, Romford, Essex.
Murphy Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Syston, have sold a lorry (31 tons) to Messrs. E Luther and Sons, 25 The Brightside, Enfield.
Ceuttal Garage (Luton), Ltd., Transport House, 85 Victoria Street, St. Albans, have taken over two vehicles (Ill tons 14 cwt.) from Amalgamated Removers and Transport, Ltd., St. Albans; Hauliers (Eastern), Ltd., 75 South Street, Bishop's Stortford, one (2 tons 16 cwt.) from Mr. L. Judd, Great Hallingbury, Bishop's Stortford; Mr. H. Rackliffe, 4 Mangles Road. Guildford, a lorry (2 tons 2 cwt.) and a trailer from Mays Motors (Transport), Ltd., ThursTey Road, Elstead; and T. C. Amey's Aggregates, Ltd., Besselsleigh Road, Abingdon, have made another purchase, this time of two articulated outfits (10 tons).
One-vehicle purchases have been made by two Maidenhead hauliers; Mr. N. Buckland, Mayflower' East Street (31 tons) and Mr. J. C. Lewis, 117 Blackamoor Lane (5 tons). Renwick, Wilton and Dobson, Ltd., 56 Stamford Street, London, S.E.I, have taken over two lorries (51 tons) based at Stroud.
A special A licence for two lorries (5/ tons) granted to Mr. W. E. Reeve, The Garage, Blued Street, Maidstone, has now been transferred to Mrs. H. M. Reeve, of the same address.
