Approved .1-1. A CURVED two-piece windscreen will be the chief feature of a new Spurting body design for the Bedford 20-25-cwt. and 30-cwt. vans to be introduced next month. Sliding doors will be fitted to the cab and the rear doors will be hung on outrigger brackets.

The loading space will be 300 Cu. ft., with an extra 35 cu. ft. beside the driver in the cab. Interior dimensions will be: Length behind driver, 10 ft.; width, 6 ft. 2 in.; height, 5 ft. 1 in. The price of the 20-25-cwt. van has been fixed at £821 12s. 8d. and the 30-cwt. van at £871 5s.. 6d. (both figures include purchase tax).

ALL-BULK DELIVERIES TO BISCUIT FACTORY

RECEPT1ON of ingredients for biscuit production at one of the factories of United Biscuits, Ltd., was now all by road vehicles with bulk loads, Mr. P. G. Macdonald, chairman, has reported. The company embraces McVitie and Price and Macfarlane "Lang.

Flour was delivered in 15-ton vehicles whereas it was formerly carried in 140-1b. bags. Discharge of a bulk load took an hour for 15 tons, the flour being blown through 60 ft. of piping into one of eight 35-ton bins.

Fats were carried in 12-ton loads and syrup in 9-ton consignments. Sugar from a bulk-delivery vehicle was conveyed by an elevator into a 50-ton hopper for distribution into the factory mixer.

FIVE RALLIES THIS YEAR fill ALLIES for commercial-vehicle IX drivers will be held this year in Leeds and London, as well as in Portsmouth and Coventry. Leeds Accident Prevention Committee agreed last week to stage a rally.

The first three drivers in each of the four classes in each rally will be eligible to compete in the final contest at Coventry next October, when the "Lorry Driver of the Year" will be selected Last Saturday, Tate and Lyle, Ltd. held a private rally for their vehicles at Fairlop Aerodrome, in Essex. TECHNICAL STAFFS' RISE I NCREASES in wages of 18s. to 22s. 6d. a week have been granted to supervisory and technical staffs of Belfast Transport Department. A new wages structure for such employees has been agreed upon by the department with the Association of Supervisory Staffs, Executives and Technicians. c6 THE practice on the part of laundry and dry-cleaning companies in employing transport on a commission basis was approved by the South Wales

Licensing Authority last week. He granted B licences to Mr. I. G. Osborne, Nantgarw, and Mr. W. J. Rowlands, Porth, to carry for J. and B. Cleaners, Ltd., and to Mr. A. M. Bazley, Trelewis, to carry for three other laundry companies.

It was stated that the operators canvassed for orders and were paid commission on the amount of goods collected. "It seems to me a very sensible arrangement," said the Authority. "It seems very much better to send a man out on the road and give him an incentive. It also saves the trouble of finding a suitable driver."

GLASS FIBRE FOR DOUBLECURVE PARTS

THE application of glass-fibre reinforced Cellobond polyestee resins to the construction of doublecurvature components will be emphasized by -British Resin Products, Ltd., Devonshire House, Piccadilly, London, W.1, in their display at the British Plastics Exhibition at Olympia from June 1-11.

The theme of the company's ran_ge of exhibits is plastics in transport, and a feature will be a selection of brake facings made with Cellobond cashew resins. These resins are made from the shell of the cashew nut and impart good anti-fade properties.

Phenolic thermo-setting moulding materials are now being extruded by British Resin Products, Ltd.

They are known as Rockitc rigid extrusions, and for the first time they provide a rigid plastics material of any required uniform cross-section in unlimited lengths.

Close tolerances are maintained throughout manufacture, and the extrusions require no finishing operations, it is claimed.

Rockite extrusions are heat resistant and have a high-gloss finish. They are available in a variety of colours and should be suitable for a wide range of uses in commercial vehicle construction. Beading, channel, conduit and edging sections are available.

TIGER CUBS' 18 M.P.G. IN TRINIDAD

AN average fuel-consumption rate of 18 m.p.g. is being returned by five Leyland Tiger Cub buses operated by Arima Bus Services, Tunapuna, Trinidad. Together with a Leyland-M.C.W. Olympic, the Tiger Cubs maintain a service involving 16 runs a day between Sangre Grande and Port-of-Spain, a distance of 32 miles. There are five stops per mile.

The Leylands have replaced petrol buses which could not compete economically with taxis.
