III The Basque region in Spain is joining France in banning trucks from its roads on Sundays. Long-suffering international operators already wondering how to cope with problems caused by the French Sunday lorry ban (see page 10), now face a similar restriction in some parts of Spain.

Trucks weighing more than 7.5 manes are banned from certain roads in the region between 00:00-21:00 Ill's on Sundays and public holidays. The Spanish warn that any operator deemed to be breaking the ban will be fined 100,000 pesetas (C450) and his Vehicle will be immobilised.

As with the French ban, hauliers who are carrying livestock and perishable goods will be exempt.

Trucks carrying hazardous goods anywhere in Spain are still banned from driving from 13:00hrs on the day before public hoiidays (other than Saturdays),
