Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LORRY drivers and operators using Shropshire's roads have been warned by the County Council against trying to get away with overloading vehicles by pleading they do not understand metric weights.

Such excuses will not be accepted by the trading standards officers, who will be stepping up their campaign against overloaded vehicles in a county where recent checks have indicated that one in five vehicles are over the limit.

The county council's public protection committee decided on March 10 to back the officers in their tough stand against overloading which is affecting the county's roads that are already badly damaged by the bad winter weather.

Plans are going ahead for another public weighbridge at one of the county's busiest junctions — the A5 and A49 link up just south of Shrewsbury.
