Department for Transport (DfT) over what it sees as inconsistency in its proposal to increase the motorway speed limit to 80mph.

In February the DfT said the proposal was dead, but transport minister Stephen Hammond revived the idea in an interview last month. However, over the weekend transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin said that the increase was not a priority.
