by Jane Sayer • A truck driver has been left traumatised after being knifed 21 times, allegedly by two Iraqi illegal immigrants. as he stopped for a tea-break at services on the M1 at Newport Pagnell, David Waste11 was slashed across the face, shoulders and arms after being hit over the back of the head as he went to check the rear of his hit trailer. The attackers escaped after he passed out.

Waste11. who had only jOst started working at the FH Nicholls haulage depot at Sittingbourne, Kent, has had to quit his job after being left mentally scarred by the attack, Nicholls transport manager Neil Ilavill says: "Following the attack he feels he can no longer do the job.

"We have never had any inci

dents of this nature before and we have warned our other drivers to be stringent."

The two attackers were looking for six other illegal immigrants who were understood to have sneaked aboard the trailer in Holland before it was shipped to Sheerness and driven to the Nicholls' depot at Sittingbourne.

As the stowaways began cutting their way out of the trailer five of them were captured by a police surveillance team and have since been deported: the sixth escaped.

The following day WasteII was taking the trailer to Birmingham when he was attacked from behind by two men after stopping at Newport Pagnell services. One of them knifed him after repeatedly asking "Where are my friends?" Police are still hunting the attackers.
