THE STANDARD of lorries ar trailers presented for heas. goods vehicle tests rose in t1 year to March 31, according the Department of Transport.
Although the number vehicles tested at the 91 statior — which the Government wan to transfer to the private sect( — rose from 1979/80's 896,3. to 922,273, the failure rat dropped from 19.2 to 17.3 pi cent. This is by far the towe: failure rate since the schem was begun in 1969.
The failure rate for first test (up from 729,573 to 771,963) fe from 21.5 to 19 per cent.
