MEMBERS of the Road Haulage Association who find it necessary to sub-contract consignments to the Middle East are being advised to check that the carrier who does the job has the appropriate permits and other documents. A meeting of the Association's international group has received reports about the increasing use of forged permits for Mid dle East journeys.
Growth in the practice is leading foreign Governments to impose greater stringency in frontier checks with resulting delays to all vehicles, both legitimate and illegal, the group says. The group warns that the previous high regard awarded to British hauliers in other countries is coming into disrepute. This might have an affect on future considers of quota or permit levels.
The RHA is supporting amended International I Permits Bill and is hoping the DoE will take vigo action to implement the leg tion. The international grol also asking freight forwai to refuse consignments operators not in a positio carry it legally.
