FIV&DAY CAR HIRE PLAN

A SCHEME devised by J. Davy. Car ra Hire, Ltd., Babmaes Street, London, W.1, offers business houses reduced annual contract rates for car-hire cars. Savings of up to 25 per cent. are possible.

The "5-D Plan allows the customer full use of the car from 8 a.m. on Monday until 8 p.m. on Friday. At the end of the five-day period, the car is returned to one of the five Davy depots in London, where it is cleaned and serviced before being allocated to the hire fleet for week-end use.

The car is then cleaned and maintained once more for the customer collecting on Monday. Advantages of the scheme include reduced terms for the annual hirer and an easing of week-end pressure on the depot.

Rates for the new scheme range between £3 7s. 6d. per week for an Austin A-35 to £.6 per week for a seven-seat fully furnished caravan. The 'hirer is responsible for comprehensive insurance and petrol; an excess charge of 14d. Per mile becomes payable after the first 13,000 miles.

BURY EXPANDS THROUGH-ROUTE SCHEME

FOLLOWING the success of a Crosstown bus service introduced nearly six months ago, Bury Corporation hope to merge eight more of their services into four through routes. Among the eight are the Bolton and Rochdale services, which will require approval from the two corporations concerned.

Mr. J. T. Langley, traffic superintendent, hopes that the undertaking's annual mileage will be cut by 35,000. He said last week that there was also a chance that some of the traffic lost through the last fare increase would be recovered, and that fewer buses would be needed.
