ATHREAT to the House of Lords was made, last week, by Mr. Herbert Morrison, as a result of the many defeats which the Government has suffered during the Transport Bill proceedings in the Upper House. Mr. Morrison, who was speaking at a dinner in London, said thai the Government would have to consider its future constitutional policy in accordance with the attitude of the House of Lords towards the Transport Bill.

Although at present the Government proposes to devote only one day to discussing the amendments made by the House of Lords, it seems hardly likely that they could be dealt with in so short a time. The occasion will be one of vital importance in political history.

18 OBJECTORS: 3 APPEAR

LTHOUGH 18 operators lodged "lobjections to an application by Mr. Reuben Dover, of Portinscale, Keswick, for an additional vehicle of 3 tons to carry livestock and farm produce, only three appeared in court. For the applicant, it was submitted that the objections had been made merely to impress the Northern Licensing Authority, who granted the application in modified form_

THREE APPEALS NEXT WEEK

MEXT week the Appeal Tribunal will again sit at Halifax House, Strand, London, W.C.2. On July 1 the appeal of the Red House Garage Co., Ltd., against a decision of the West Midland Deputy Licensing Authority will be heard. The respondent will be A. W. Eagles. The appeal of W.H.S. Transport, Ltd., against a decision of the Metropolitan Licensing Authority is also down for hearing that day.

On July 2 the appeal of Cyril Silver, who is aggrieved by a decision of the East Midland Deputy Licensing Authority, will be heard. There will be three respondents.

APRIL NEW REGISTRATIONS MAINTAIN MONTHLY AVERAGE

IN the four months from January to 'April this year, 62,023 vehicles (excluding cars and motorcycles) were registered for the first time in the United Kingdom. April's contribution was 15,840 vehicles, which was approximately equal to this year's monthly average of new registrations. Details by classes are as follow:—
