The Annual Conference of an Important Group of Public Officials.
HE general meeting and conference of the Institution of Municipal and County En
gineers, which was held at the City Hall, Cardiff, on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of last week, was the 49th of the series, the Institution having been founded in 1873. We propose to deal with the proceedings in our next issue, and for the present content ourselves with 'recording certain facts, namely, that, at the meeting on Monday, Mr. E. J. Eiford, M.Inst.C.E.,' city engineer and architect of Cardiff, was unanimously and with acclamation elected president for the forthcoming year, Mr. Norman Scorgie, M.Inst.C.E., surveyor for the borough of Hackney,
being accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for hit services as president during the past year.
Sir Henry Maybury's address was listened to with extreme interest. The trials and demonstrations of plant on Thursday showed the wonderful pitch te which the application of mechanical power to the services of municipalities has been brought. We propose to deal in our next issue with the individual vehicles and their accomplishments.
The annual dinner was held on the evening of Thursday, whilst Friday was mainly devoted to the reading and discussion of papers, a summary of those of interest to the readers of this journal being given below.
