• Overnight parcels carrier Data Express has been rebranded with its owner Hays' colours. The delivery side will be known as Hays Express Services from 1 August.
• ERF chairman Peter Foden had a 65-', pay rise for the year to March. A £25,000 bonus was paid on top of his basic salary of £92,000. Foden says it is his first bonus for five years.
• Roads all over the country have been melting as temperatures soared into the nineties for the hottest spell of the summer so far.
• Four out of five new business owners plan to expand over the coming 12 months, according to a recent poll conducted for Barclays Bank. Half of those questioned describe their prospects for the rest of the decade as good or excellent.
• Warrington-based software developer Infotach and tachograph manufacturer Tachodisc of Warrington, have merged to offer a range of information systems, record keeping products, tacho analysis and support services.
• Elf is to open a new service station on the M4 at Junction 30 between Cardiff and Newport in Wales. The site will be developed with McDonalds restaurants and will open in August.
