• The port of Dover was thrown into chaos last week when eight animal rights protesters chained themselves together preventing traffic from leaving the port.
Eleven people were arrested after the protest across a pelican crossing on the A20 at the entrance to the port. It took police 20 minutes to remove protesters after they had problems cutting through the particularly small chains used.
Dover Harbour Board denied the protest had a significant impact on the port but says it is concerned future actions could cause more disruption.
A spokesman for the organiser of the event, Sea Saboteurs says "This was just a trial run to see whether it would work— and it worked rather well. All it cost was seven cheap locks and a bit of chain."
