Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mr Gorman's estimate of £50 million a year for repairing road damage caused by overloaded lorries is just that: an estimate — not a fact.

I think Mr Gorman missed the point of my article, for it was not about vehicle weighing, but the offence of vehicle overloading — and there is a world of difference, as anyone prosecuted for a miniscule overload will verify.

All references to the Department of Transport were made only after full consultation with its officers, so whatever inaccuracies Mr Gorman complains of did not emanate from my pen.

In the final count, however, it is the industry in general and CM's readership in particular which must judge the validity or otherwise of my article. Stan Thomas Wolverhampton Road, Penkridge, Staffs.
