• THE EUROPEAN Transport Maintenance Council, which brings together transport users, manufacturers and administrators, is to press for "tangible results" on harmonising brake, tyre and trailorlength legislation, says new executive secretary Joseph Van Stappen.
The ETMC annual conference in London this November will discuss the establishment of pan-European professional qualifications for engineers and mechanics. Van Stappen says that most transport engineers in other European countries do not belong to a professional organisation as they would in the UK.
The ETIV1C will also consider setting up a membership list with a full membership scheme.
