Training Board's right hand doesn't know what its left hand is doing.

Hopefully, it is getting its act together now, with the introduction of modular training.

There is a bit to go yet, though, judging by the theatrical press presentation at the Festival Hall, London.

Picture, if you will, chairman John Armstrong CBE (stage left) announcing the entrance (stage right) of three industry heavies, apparently brought on to give modules their seal of approval.

First conies David Bassett from BRS, then John Mernagh of Dormobile, then Ian Creek of Wadham Stringer. All three say nice things about modules, then take their place alongside Mr Armstrong, training Minister Peter Morrison and RT1TB director general Eric Tindall.

It was all just a little strange. Reporters were not told that they had sat on the modular working parties.

Where were the union people? In fact, Jack Ashwell and Larry Smith could be spotted by those who knew them — sitting in the audience.

Still, after a rough five years it was nice to hear the board blowing its own trumpet — even if they weren't note perfect.
