E F EIGHT Transport Association tol the Health and Safety Commist its draft proposals for regulating ge of dangerous goods by road )un to "a sledgehammer to crack a Pt.
he ommission has made a mistake in ng o produce one set of regulations :ov r both bulk loads in tankers and ka d consignments in small vans, A. It points out that a road tanker ryi g highly dangerous material .ese ts a far greater risk than a small van with a few relatively harmless packages.
But the proposals are inappropriate and expensive for vans with less dangerous loads, and training requirements for their drivers are entirely different, says FTA. The Association thinks road tankers should be treated separately.
A spokesman for the Health and Safety commission told CM that the proposals are only in a draft form and welcomed "constructive criticism" from interested bodies.
