Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A TANK for testing cylinder heads for porosity or cracks is now available from Purpose Engineers Ltd, Duffield Road, Little Eaton, Derby.

Two 240v ac immersion heaters raise the temperature of the water held in a storage tank to 90°C. This water is then pumped into the test tank and the cylinder head under test is pressurised with compressed air to 507 kN/sqm (74 psi). All the cylinder-head apertures must be plugged.

Surface defects are shown up by air bubbles in the water forming around them. The mounting jig into which the head is clamped can be rotated through 360° for all-round inspection.

The test tank can accommodate cylinder heads up to a maximum length of 1000 mm (94 in) and maximum width of 380 mm (36 in). Cost of the equipment, ex-works, is £2,800 + VAT.
