ONE of the highlights of the stand of Mercedes-Benz (Great Britain), Ltd., at The Commercial Motor Show, will be an articulated tanker capable of hauling 4,350 gal. of fuel oil within a gross-trainweight limit of 24 tons. The outfit will consist of a Mercedes-Benz LPS 338 10-ft. 6-in.-wheelbase tractive unit, coupled to an A.P.V. light-alloy frameless tank semi-trailer with Crane twinoscillating-axle running gear and fifthwheel coupling. The tractive unit, which has a forward-control layout, is powered by a 10.8-litre normally aspirated sixcylinder diesel engine, the net power rating of which is 180 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.rn.
Another model on this stand will he an LP 322/48R 7-ton long-wheelbase forward-control chassis, with OM 321 5,1litre diesel engine, the governed speed of which is 3,000 r.p.m., at which a gross output of 120 b.h.p. is produced. This vehicle will have a 22-ft. 6-in. platform
body with special bolster for carrying long rods. An LK 327/42R maximumcapacity four-wheeler with Millshaw tipping gear and body and an LPS 322/32 MR 8-ft. 6-in.-wheelbase tractive unit for operation at 18 tons gross train weight are to be shown also. The Demonstration Park exhibits will consist of an LPS 327/32 MR 24-tonsgross tractive unit, with appropriate semi-trailers, and an LK 322/36R semiforward-control 7-ton tipper.
