I T was revealed this week that A. Packham and Co., Ltd., specialists in the handling of " smalls" in London, the Home Counties and West Country, have recently acquired the long established family business of F. C. Pragnell and Son.

Pragnell's have long served Packharn in the Southampton area . as subcontractors; now Mr. F. C. Pragnell has retired through failing health, and has sold the business to the Packham Organization. Mr. D. Pragnell, however, is to remain as manager of this latest addition to the chain of Packham depots. which will now be fed daily by trunk services from London and Bristol.

NORWICH LOADING BANS -I-, E Eastern Area of the Traders Road 1 Transport Association is perturbed and surprised by proposals for extensive loading and unloading bans now being considered by Norwich City Council. Plans were being studied under which traffic would be banned from stopping in a number of central streets in Norwich. A feature of these plans is a ban for three periods daily on commercial vehicles stopping to load and unload. A preliminary T.R.T.A. survey indicates that the bans would cause very considerable difficulty in maintaining essential supplies in and out of the city.

DENNY HOVERCRAFT "LAUNCHED"

THE Denny D2 Hovercraft, the commercial 70-seat version of W. Denny and Sons' prototype D1, took to the water on July 17 at Dumbarton without ceremony. Some 70 ft. long and 20 ft. wide, the 25-knot craft has been fabricated largely from laminated timber. A further version will be completed by the end of August, using glass reinforced plastics as the basic material.

The Denny Hovercraft uses a side-wall system to retain the air cushion while forward propulsion is by propellers.
