Lord Wakefield Presents Ambulance to Liverpool.
Lord Wakefield has made another gift to his native city, Liverpool, by presenting to Merseyside Hospitals Council a. new Leyland Cub ambulance, thus bringing the council's fleet up to four vehicles, for all of which Lord Wakefield supplies lubricants free.
The ambulance is one of the most up-to-date in Great Britain, and the body was built by Messrs. Wilson and Stockall, of Bury. There is accommodation for two stretcher cases, or •ope stretcher and five sitting cases, or 10 or 12 sitting cases, whilst flush-fitting tip-up chairs are provided for attendants. Ventilation is effected by louvres in the driver's partition, supplemented by a Clayton heater and cold-air diffuser embodying thermostatic control, and louvres over the two forward tinted-glass drop windows.
The presentation ceremony took place on July 19, at St. George's Plateau, Liverpool, and was attended by the Lord Mayor and the Bishop of Liverpool (Dr. David).
The council's ambulances have carried some 50,000 patients and have covered more than 250,000 miles.
Regulating Petrol Stations in London.
The public control committee of the London County Council has prepared by-laws regulating the appearance, or prohibiting the establishment, of petrol stations in certain streets.
