Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

An Important Development in the Activities of a Company who Maintain a Vast Network of Bus Services.

AN important change is to be made in the administration of the huge network of many hundreds of miles of bus routes operated in Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and Sheffield and District by -United Automobile Services, Ltd. This comprises the removal of the central administrative offices to York from Lowestoft and London, from which places the system has been controlled in the past.

The change will give the company a more central situation for their headquarters, and will, in particular, enable the management to pay even greater attention to the demands of the travelling public in the North of England, in which area the company already operate on a very extensive scale from their offices at Bishop Auckland. At the present time some 250 route-miles are covered in Durham County by _the system worked from that sectional head

quarters, whilst important systems are • also worked in Northumberland from depots at Blyth, ..A.shington and Morpeth, as well as in the Ripon and Harrogate neighbourhoods from the recently , instituted depot at the former place.

It is not the intention of the company to run vehicles in York and district, but merely to use this very convenient centre to the best advantage in the development of their interests in the various 'fields of activity. Their -present fleet, which is largely run on pneumatic tyres; consists of nearly 700 single-decker saloon buses, and this number will be augmented in the near future by deliveries from part of a big order recently Placed for the supply of another 100 35-seater Associated-Daimler buses of the latest design, in the construction of which the most modern improvements will be incorporated. .

As deliveries are made new routes will be opened up and existing services speeded up in various parts ef the north country, including the Darlington, Tees-side, West Hartlepool, Newcastle, Bishop Auckland and other districts. One decision already reached is to substitute the existing half-hourly direct services between Darlington and Stock ton, and Darlington, Bishop Auckland and Durham by a 15-minute one. Special attention will also be paid to long-distance through routes, of which United Automobile Services, Ltd., already work a considerable number. Typical examples of the success of these are the routes linking up Middlesbrough and Whitby, Darlington and Redcar, and Darlington and West Hartlepool.

All vehicles delivered in connection with the large new order will he -shod with pneumatic tyres, and they will compare favourably with private cars for riding comfort. Front-wheel brakes are to be fitted on one of the buses.
