Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

joanna.bourke@rbi.co.uk PET FOOD SUPPLIER Fish4Dogs has bought logistics irm MarinPet UK, moving its supply chain operations in-house in a bid to reduce its costs.

The Rushcock, Worcestershirebased retailer snapped up MarinPet UK for an undisclosed sum. The deal comprises a 161,458ft2 warehouse that is on the same industrial estate as Fish4Dogs, and the 25 employees at the irm.

Fish4Dogs, which describes itself as the fastest-growing pet food manufacturer in the UK, says it made the purchase to improve its eficiency and cost base and to have control over its logistics operations rather than using existing supplier Yodel alongside a number of other couriers.

Graham Smith, CEO of Fish4Dogs, says: “We have experienced a massive hike in internet sales, and it didn’t make sense for us to keep delivering them using a number of carriers. I now have total transparency of our cost structure and can have more management control of logistics operations.” He adds: “As the operation got larger, I felt we needed a morestructured supply chain.

“We have worked with MarinPet UK for a number of years, and are conident we will be stronger by having them managing all of our logistics, including pick and packing.” MarinPet does not run its own truck leet, but uses Droitwichbased Tooles Transport – which joined TPN from Palletways earlier this month – for most UK deliveries. Fish4Dogs says it is looking forward to working directly with Tooles to distribute up to 400 parcels daily.
