Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I was surprised to read your article headed "French Connection" (Bird's-eye view, December 30) about "dirty" French ferries and "rude" French crews.

Apart from being a very sweeping statement it is, in my experience, also completely untrue.

My company uses Brittany Ferries' service between Portsmouth and St Maio and I have heard no complaints regarding "dirty" ships or "rude" crews; in fact, I have heard the complete opposite.

I have been to see this French company's operation for myself. I simply say that operators could learn a thing or two from Brittany Ferries about cleanliness of ships and the standard of on-board facilities.

Let's not knock the French ferries and crews until we are sure that the standards to be found on British cross-channel vessels are that much better. F. H. ALLEN, Joint Managing Director, Cabmont International Ltd, Southampton.
