Handy crane

CAPABLE of lifting loads in a confined space is a lightweight hand-operated portable crane, designed by Trace] Fabrications Ltd. Useful in workshops and garages the crane is fitted with hard-wearing nylon wheels which do not pick up oil and foreign matter.

Overall length of the crane is 5 ft. 8 in., height of the mast is 4 ft. 9 in., with the minimum height of the hook 2 ft. 6 in., and the maximum 8 ft. 6 in. There are three jib positions: 20 cwt closed, 15 cwt centre, and 10 cwt open. Unladen weight of the crane is 2.5 cwt.

Portable cleaner

T ATEST addition to the range of Flexican cleaners is the 2A unit---a portable high-pressure cleaner operating at 750 lb. p.s.i., with a flow of 2.25 g.p.m., and powered by a 2 h.p. motor. The 2A uses a diaphragm pump, with bronze pumping chambers and Delrin stainless steel valves. The pump will run dry without wear or overheating and will self-prime with a lift of up to 6 ft. Freezing will not crack the casing, says the maker.

Mounted on a skid with lifting handles at each end. the 2A weighs 120 lb and its overall dimensions are 2 ft. by 2 ft. by 3 ft.

Rubber mudflap

Automatic topping-up

AN automatic device for topping up batteries fitted on electrically driven vehicles has been introduced by Exide and Kathanode batteries division. In this new traction autofill device, conventional cell plugs are replaced by electrolyte regulating plugs which automatically terminate the flow of water by means of an air-lock when the correct levels are reached.

The level regulating plugs are connected by flexible tubing in a series/parallel circuit. Water is fed into the system from a reservoir above the battery, through filter and metering jets, into each branch. When all the cells have been topped up excess water flows to an outlet reservoir. The auto-fill device can be fitted to new vehicles if required.
