SCHEDULED for a five-day hearing before the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners at Leeds, two further applications to provide additional facilities between the West Riding and the West Country were concluded in one sitting on Tuesday.

Sheffield United Tours Ltd., and C. G. Littlewood Ltd. sought to operate jointly a new express service between Sheffield and Newquay, picking up and setting down at Sheffield, Dronfield and Chesterfield, the service to be provided on Fridays—from the Friday preceding Whit Saturday—outward—until the last Saturday in September on return.

For the applicants, Mr. M. H. JacksonLipkin said that subject to various amendments the objectors (Yorkshire-Torbay Pool operators, Western National and British Railways) were able to withdraw.

The agreed amended service now read that four vehicles be operated—outwards--on the third Friday in July until the Friday preceding the last Saturday in August and on return from the second Saturday after the third Friday in July until the second Saturday after the Friday preceding the last Saturday in August.

The effect of this was to reduce the vehicle allowance from four vehicles applied for to two vehicles on any departure.

For the Yorkshire-Torbay Pool, Mr. F. D. Walker said that having accepted the rearranged wording and that some augmentation of the existing facilities was required, his clients were not conceding there was not also a need for the facilities applied for by them.

For British Railways, Mr. F. Buckby said the withdrawal subject to amendment in no way discounted BR objection to the Pool proposal.

Mr. Jackson-Lipkin said that whatever happened to this application could in no way affect the Pool applications.

The managing director of C. G. Littlewood Ltd., Mr. C. G. Littlewood, said about 382 people had inquired about through coaches to Newquay for this next season.

The assistant traffic manager of Sheffield United Tours, Mr. T. E. Crewe, handed in a petition representing 197 people. He said the proposed two coaches each way was very modest and that if a grant was made it might be necessary to ask for more. A demand had been building up for two or three years.

The chairman, Mr. H. F. Robson, said the Commissioners would reserve their decision; they were satisfied there was a need but would take time to consider what should be granted.

At the same sitting, following agreement with the objectors (Associated Motorways, West Yorkshire Road Car Co. and British Railways). C. G. Littlewood was granted an application as amended to vary the conditions of an express licence between Sheffield and Torquay.

Littlewood had agreed to amend a proposed increase in the seasonal vehicle allowance and to seek an increase in the early and late season allowance of two to be brought up to the highseason allowance of four,
