Coaches in London.

TN reply to a question regardine' the circulation of motor coaches in Loudon, Mr. Morrison has stated that he has received a recommendation from the London Traffic Advisory Committee that in order to relieve congestion regulations should be made with the object of restricting the operation of coaches within the central area of London and had published draft regulations in the matter.

Before any regulation was made, he added, he would carefully consider any representation which might be received within the statutory period of 40 days after the publication of the draft regulations. This period would expire on January 28th.

London Traffic Bill.

DISCUSSIONS are still proceeding with the various authorities and bodies concerned in legislation for the co-ordination of London passenger traffic, and the Minister of Transport cannot yet announce the date for the introduction of the Bill.

police force. Mr. Morrison said he understood that in accordance with the usual scale Mr. Ferndale would be entitled to a pension of two-thirds of his salary. .

Upon the suggestion of Mr. Longbottore that in all appointments of inspectors and examiners under the Road Traffic Act they should be persons who were not in receipt of pensions from positions previously held, Mr. Morrison said he would bear carefully in mind the suggestion, with which he was generally in sympathy. The predominating consideration must, however, in each case, be the selection of the best qualified candidate for the post available. Dartford-Purfleet Tunnel.

TEM Minister of Transport hopes that tenders will be invited within the next few weeks for the construction of the pilot tunnel in connection with the Dartford-Purfleet Tunnel.

CHEMES of improvement and con

struction of Class I and Class IT roads and bridges approved in detail or in principle from August 31st, 1929, to January 17th, 1931 (practically the period of office of the Government), amount approximately to 154,250,000. The total volume of employment afforded directly and indirectly by these schemes is estimated at 217,000 man-years.
