• When owner-driver Rod Larkin found himself at Irun on the French/Spanish border without the necessary permit to continue his journey, he asked colleagues in England to rush him out a new permit via one of the world's leading overnight courier companies, DHL. The permit arrived the next day ... but in Iran rather then !run.
As Commercial Motor went to press, the permit had still not reached him; he had been at the
border for a week.
Larkin is a member of hauliers group Unit 91 whose boss, Mike Pickering, says he sent the permit book to Larkin, addressed in French to the Spanish border at Irun, on 18 February. Pickering is now claiming compensation from the carrier on behalf of Larkin, who he says is losing £150 a day.
DHL says the package was inis-routed; it will consider compensating Larkin.
