• Two brothers were given three days' notice to get their vehicles through MoT tests or have their licence revoked, when they appeared at a Cardiff public inquiry.

William and Thomas Lloyd, trading as WGR Lloyd & Son of Kenfig Hill, were given a stern warning by South Wales Licensing Authority John Mervyn Pugh when they appeared at a public inquiry in August last year. Since then a further prohibition notice endorsed "neglect" had been imposed on one of their vehicles.

William Lloyd agreed that they should have spotted the fractured engine mounting and an air leak on the prohibited vehicle as they inspected the vehicles themselves. He admitted that he had no professional training, apart from what he had picked up.

Asked whether they had considered using an outside garage, William Lloyd said "not really". They did a bit of maintenance every weekend to cut costs, he said.
