Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SHETLAND Road Freight Association is now in operation: it has scme 20 member firms and is receiving a steady flow of applications.

The Association covers all sections of the haulage industry in Shetland, where the impact of North Sea oil has had substantial value for operators as well as posing new problems.

Included in the present membership are own-account operators, tippers, oil tanker operators, livestock and farm contractors, goods haulage firms and contract-building concerns.

The Association was formed through the encouragement of the Highlands and Islands Development Board fol lowing the creation in 1974 of a similar grouping of interests on the mainland. That body is the North of Scotland Transport Association—now a very healthy organisation.

Mr Donald McCuish, head of the HIBD transport branch, visited Shetland recently to meet the chairman of the Shetland Road Freight Association, Mr Larry Leslie, of P&O Ferries, and others attending the inaugural meeting, including committe members Mr Alan Arthur of Amalgamated Quarries Ltd; Mr John Bowie, also of Amalgamated Quarries; and Mr Duncan Mouat and Mrs Pamela Mouat of Unst.
