Freight figures

DR JOHN Gilbert, Minister of Transport, told the Commons last week that he is to publish the first volume of a new series on transport statistics.

The new book will include statistics on British Rail freight to show nine commodity groups and the figures will range back to 1964. They will also have the income from freight split into six headings.

BRS sweetener

SOUTHERN British Road Services are to open a branch at Bury St Edmund's next May to handle a Major new contract they have won from British Sugar Corporation.

The deal is worth £350,000 and includes nineteen 32-tongross Leyland Buffalo motive units with white sugar tank trailers each capable of handling 20-ton loads which will be built by Murfitt of Wisbech.

Knorr-Bremse dealer

SAB Brake Regulator Co Ltd of Darlington has been appointed sole UK and Southern Ireland concessionaire for the Knorr-Bremse range of automotive products, parts and servicing.

Knorr-Bremse supplies a range of pneumatic braking products, compressor units and valves, automatic load-sensing valves, electro-magnetic brake valves, solenoid valves and actuating cylinders, levelling and control valves, power clutches, disc brakes, test equipment.

Expansion

SCANTRUCK has opened two new spares and maintenance depots at Banbury and High Wycombe which will be linked in with -the Scantruck computer spares service.

The new depot at Banbury is based at Andy's Transport Ltd and will be using its workshop facilities to provide a 24,hour service.
