AN ENERGY CONSERVATION programme launched in November 1973 by Perkins Engines of Peterborough, has helped the company save nearly one million gallons of fuel oil.
The company has a Suggestion Scheme to encourage employees to think of new ways of cutting energy consumption. The current maximum award for any idea is f 1,000, and this is being increased to a possible f 2,000.
This conservation policy has saved Perkins four Peterborough factories £124,000 over the past year.
The firm has a Fuel Conservation Committee which has begun a number of fuel saving projects, including the lowering of heating in offices from 20° to 17.20C (680to 63° F) and a campaign to arouse staff interest.
