Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A jig boring and milling machine has been announced by Barker Machine Tools and Equipment Ltd., the sole agent for the machine in the UK. It is known as the Waida JMB-40 and is of Japanese origin. Special features include a head that is fixed on a square side-mounted column to give greater rigidity and machining accuracy over a long period.

The weight of the machine is 9,2501b, and it has a height, width and depth of 8ft 6in., 5ft 7in., and 5ft 10in., respectively. The machine has a table area of 31 fin. by 204-in., a spindle taper of 40 IT and an infinitely variable spindle speed range of 80/2,100 rpm.

Machining accuracy is maintained over the whole operation since the head is completely supported along its entire length. This ensures maximum rigidity for carrying out such varied operations as manufacturing dies and the quantity production of precision work pieces.

Operation of the main shaft is infinitely variable to give a vibrationless drive. The quill feed incorporates a recirculating ball screw to provide friction-free movements, a feature not usually associated with machines of this type.

Made from a combination of chrome steel and molybdenum steel and hardened with nitrogen, the quill is designed to give a high standard of performance over a long period.

High-quality materials have also gone into the manufacture of the bed, table supporting post and saddle, which are built of meehanite cast iron and treated against abrasive wear.

An important feature from the operator's point of view is that the machine is constructed to give unobstructed access to the table. The table is fitted with a quickfeeding device in addition to being infinitely variable in operation.

All working movements are operated by pendant control, while an optical reading device gives a minimum reading of 0.00039in. (0.001mm). The optical positioning device can give a precision reading as low as 0.0001 571n. (0.004mm).

A comprehensive range of accessories is available, including a universal microboring head, milling and drilling chucks and a centering microscope.
